Ever Wondered How Much Australian Olympians Make? We'll Tell You Just That...

Athletes globally can make millions of dollars a year for being the best of the best, but how much do Olympic competitors make?

How Much They Make...

Our Aussies in Tokyo are doing perhaps the highest honour in sports and that is representing their country, especially in the Olympics.

In the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, each athlete has a set pay, as well as a medal Bonus if they happen to win a medal, paying more for gold, and less for silver & Bronze.

For each GOLD Medal won in the Tokyo Olympics, the athlete will be rewarded A$20,000 as an incentive, on top of the priceless medal they win.

For Silver Medals, Athlete's receive A$13,400, and for Bronze, they will receive $10,000.

For team sports (e.g. Basketball, Football, Rugby etc.) the prize money is split evenly between the competitors on the team.

How Does That Compare To Other Countries?

Unfortunately for Australian athletes, they sit on the lower end of the spectrum as many other countries reward a lot more money to the medal recipients.

These countries include Singapore, which rewards its athletes a fraction under a million dollars for each gold medal (A$983,000) with Indonesia following with (A$500,000) for each gold medal won.

Singapore also has a (A$492,000) reward for Silver medal recipients, and their reward for a Bronze medal still being more than 10 times as much as our Gold Medal winners receive (A$245,000).

However underwhelming Australia's reward may be, it still is something at least, unlike the UK, Norway and Sweden that all offer no bonus for any medal won at the Olympics.
